Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
I watched a movie that several people had recommended. The name is not important because I believe, and even more so now after watching this film, that how I spend my time: what I watch, listen to, read, and interact with has a more powerful influence, even if I may not be aware of until later.
After watching this movie, I was sad, maybe a little disturbed. Throughout the movie, people would say in one way or another, “We are all gonna die”
Fear of death was the motivator. Life was the victory. The unknown was overwhelming.
I wasn’t afraid, but sleep would not come and my mind would not shut off. After about an hour I remembered teaching my children, when stuck in a bad dream, call out to Jesus.
That is when I realized what was so disturbing and sad about the movie. I don’t recall hearing anyone call out to God or pray.
Now, I realize this was just a movie. Art imitating life or is it life imitating art…I don’t know.
This I do know… in a sense, we all have blindfolds on. We do not know what tomorrow brings let alone the next moment. But I do know the One who does. I know His voice and He calls me by name. He leads me and I follow. He makes my path firm, I trust Him because Jesus has proven He is trustworthy and faithful. He will never leave us or forsake us… He has not left us alone but has given to us the Holy Spirit, who lives in us, to teach us, to guide us, to help us to recognize and know truth and wisdom.
We do know how “His story “ends, He has told us. He is victorious! Now we watch as He unfolds each layer of His will. Not powerless as the world may see, but powerful as the Holy Spirit enables and empowers us. Let us live our lives victorious, death has been defeated! Christ Jesus lives! Let us not keep the good news to ourselves, just like sharing a good movie, restaurant or team winning. Christ has risen and He lives. He leads the way, let us follow and tell.
Lord Jesus, Please forgive us when we fall away and forget You.
Holy Spirit refine us and mold us into what God calls us each to be. Help us in our disobedience.
Holy Omniscient God,
You see all, know all and only what You allow comes to pass. Help us to live a life that glorifies You.
