What Name?

Sometimes I sing a song without really thinking about it. Leeland’s song, Way Maker, has been getting a lot of playtimes on the radio and at my church. I was thinking of the lyrics and what they meant to me. What does way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness mean? Way Maker, He makes my way. Miracle worker, Jesus performed miracles, and can still today. Promise keeper, Jesus keeps His promises. Light in the darkness, Jesus’ light chases away the darkness. All this seemed well, excellent, and accurate, but is this what I trust for my life? Who is this that I am pouring out my heart?

Who is this Way Maker?

He is The One that can make a way when there seems to be no way. His plan is in place, and His will has made it complete. His perfect plan comes from who He is: All-Knowing, All-Powerful, All-Wise. He spoke and made Creation. He divided the Red Sea. He sheltered Israel by day with clouds and protected them at night by fire. He remembered us in our low estate and has freed us from our enemy, death.

Miracle Worker?

Who can? He can. He restored a soldier’s ear, a blind man’s sight. He softened Zacchaeus’ heart and changed his life. He regenerated Sarah’s womb and brought life back into Lazarus’ dead body. At Pentecost, language was no barrier to the good news of the resurrection of Christ Jesus. More than 2000 years later, the living Bible has remained. The Word of God and the spread of the Gospel continue despite opposition. Lives continue to be changed.

Promise Keeper?

Regardless of the world, irrespective of the news, the government, or our obedience or disobedience. Regardless of those refusing to be used or willing to be used by God. He keeps His promises. His character is righteous, perfect, and just. He cannot lie because He is not a liar. His word is truth, trustworthy, and relevant.

Light in the darkness?

How is Jesus The Light in the darkness? His words teach us and point us to our Father. Why is that important? Who cares?

God created out of His desire to love and share His love. He is the reason for life, love, joy, hope, purpose, and relationship.

Our sin broke our relationship, and we are overwhelmed separated from our Father. Overwhelmed with questions: Why?

Why is there hate, hunger, disease, prejudice, selfishness, self-centeredness, suffering, fear, and death? Why doesn’t God fix it!?!

He has.

He sent His Son, who is equal to Him, to the lost, and those seeking to lead us. Jesus came to light the path of life, life eternal, in the darkness of fear and death. Jesus is the Light that breaks the darkness and bondage from the Whys of life—offering an abundant life, a free life, indeed a truly free life.

Jesus is the Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness. This is the Name that fills my soul, which gives life to my spirit, making a song in my heart!

Thank you, Jesus!
